There are presently no open calls for submissions.

At Jenny, we work to publish a solid mixture of pieces and authors, from both local areas and not-so-local. We are looking for a broad range of your best polished work. We ask that if you are submitting to Jenny, you carefully read through the guidelines for the specific category you are submitting to.

Issue 22: Reimagine Youngstown

From the start, Jenny Magazine has been a literary magazine that aims to place the voices of writers from the Mahoning Valley alongside those of writers from around the world. For our 2024 issue, we’re seeking stories, poems, essays, and visual art that answers our call for regional writers, as well as writers who may be further afield but whose life has intersected with our region in some fashion, to Reimagine Youngstown. We want you to share with us what the city means to you, using whichever medium you love best.

Youngstown is a city and a region that is synonymous with determination, tenacity, and community spirit in the face of struggle. A city is a place that is constantly changing, if it’s alive, so for this issue we hope to bring together a host of voices and perspectives on Youngstown: new perspectives on the past, exciting speculations on our future here, and explorations of how we live right now. If you share a personal connection with the city of Youngstown that would make a compelling piece, send it our way!

We accept previously unpublished written work, and in the case of the Reimagine Youngstown Issue, we accept reprints. All rights revert back to the author/artist after publication of the issue.

The average response time on submissions is 6-12 weeks after the submission period closes.

General Guidelines:

  • Submitters can send work to more than one category so long as each category's guidelines are followed.
  • Submissions are blind. Do not include any identifying information on your submission — that's what the submission form and cover letter are for.
  • Formatting for all pieces should be in Times New Roman, 12 pt. font.
  • Prose submissions should be double spaced.
  • Failure to follow any guidelines will disqualify your submission.

Though we greatly appreciate all of our contributors, Jenny unfortunately cannot pay its contributors at this time.
